강의 소개

사운드는 셀 수 없이 많은 경로를 통해 만들 수 있지만, 이 수업에서는 사운드에 대한 기초 이론을 현대적 관점에서 해석함과 동시에 ‘Live’라는 툴과 ‘Live’의 내장 플러그인만으로 매력적인 소리를 만드는 방법을 소개합니다. ‘Live’는 전세계 전자음악가, 미디어 아티스트가 사랑하는 프로그램으로 쉽고 편리하게 작품 작업을 할 수 있게 도와줍니다. 사운드가 무엇인지 부터 내 손으로 사운드를 만드는 작업까지, 청각 예술가로서 첫 걸음을 내딛는데 있어서 유용한 과정이 될 것입니다.

Course Overview

Sound can be created through countless pathways, but in this course, we will interpret foundational sound theory from a modern perspective and introduce methods for creating appealing sounds using only the tools and built-in plugins of Ableton Live. ‘Live’ is a beloved program among electronic musicians and media artists worldwide, facilitating easy and convenient creative work. This course will be a valuable first step for auditory artists, guiding you from understanding what sound is to creating sound on your own.

  • Live가 처음인 분, 사운드 디자인에 관심은 있지만 어떻게 시작하는지 몰라 망설이시는 분
  • 앞으로 Live를 활용한 사운드 디자인을 적용해 전자음악, 미디어 아트 작품을 만들고자 하는 분

 

*입문/중급 선택: 다음 질문 중 Yes가 3개 이상인 분들은 중급, 1-2개인 분들은 입문 강의를 신청해 주세요.

 

  1. Live의 세션뷰를 적극적으로 활용할 줄 안다.
  2. Live의 내장악기와 프리셋을 활용해 음악을 만들어본 경험이 있다.
  3. Live의 항목별 기능을 질문하면 1문장 정도로 단순한 개념 설명이 가능하다.
  4. 사운드 합성에서의 ‘FM’이 무엇인지 들어는 봤다.
  5. 사운드를 직접 제너레이트하고 합성하여, 창작에 활용한 경험이 있다.
  6. 오로지 녹음만을 위해 어떤 장소를 찾아가 필드 레코딩을 진행해본 경험이 있다.

Target Audience

  • Beginners new to Ableton Live or those curious about sound design but unsure how to start.
  • Individuals planning to create electronic music or media art using Ableton Live for sound design.
  • Beginner/Intermediate Selection: If you answer “Yes” to 3 or more of the following questions, consider the intermediate course. If you answer “Yes” to only 1-2 questions, the beginner course may be a better fit:

 

  1. Are you comfortable using Live’s Session View?
  2. Have you created music using Live’s built-in instruments and presets?
  3. Can you explain basic functions of Live in one sentence?
  4. Are you familiar with the concept of “FM” in sound synthesis?
  5. Have you ever generated and synthesized sounds for creative work?
  6. Have you done field recordings solely for sound capture?

필요한 준비 사항

  • Ableton Live 12 Suite가 설치된 노트북 (Mac 혹은 Windows)
  • 헤드폰

 

*11 Suite도 수강이 가능하나, 수업은 12로 진행됩니다. 다른 버전의 사용은 입문 과정에서는 크게 상관없지만, 중급 과정에서는 Max for Live 사용 연계로 인해 12 버전을 권장합니다.

Preparation

  • A laptop with Ableton Live 12 Suite installed (Mac or Windows)
  • Headphones

 

*Live 11 Suite is also suitable, but the course is designed around version 12. While introductory classes may accommodate other versions, the intermediate course relies on Max for Live, so using version 12 is recommended.

  • 지금까지 디자인한 사운드를 작곡에 활용하는 방법

  • Discovering Live’s hidden features for sound design

  • Basics of field recording and introductory sound synthesis (Subtractive Synthesis)

강사 소개

윤지영은 전자음악 작곡가이자, 사운드 디자이너 / 뉴 미디어 아티스트이다. 한국 예술 종합 학교에서 뮤직 테크놀러지-컴퓨터 작곡, 독일 프란츠 리스트 국립 음대에서 전자음악 작곡, 바우하우스 국립 대학교에서 미디어 아트를 전공하였다. 사운드를 독특한 방식으로 디자인하고, 첨단의 테크놀러지를 접목시켜 창작을 하는 것이 특징이다. 국내외 여러 프로젝트를 진행하였으며, 대표작으로는 영화 ‘Secrets about Helena’ (음악/사운드), ‘Socialens’ (음악/사운드), 넷플릭스 시리즈 ‘좋아하면 울리는’ (사운드)이 있다. 2023년에는 국립아시아문화전당 (ACC)의 사운드 아티스트/연구원으로 활동하며 여러 작품을 만들었다. klof라는 이름으로 테크노 디제이 활동을 하고 있으며, 익스페리멘탈, 오디오 비주얼 라이브 또한 활발히 선보이고 있다.

Instructor Introduction

The instructor is an electronic music composer, sound designer, and new media artist. Educated in music technology and computer composition at Korea National University of Arts, electronic music composition at Germany’s Franz Liszt Academy, and media art at Bauhaus University, she is recognized for her distinctive sound design and incorporation of advanced technology into her creations. Her works include international projects, such as the film Secrets about Helena (music/sound), Socialens (music/sound), and Netflix’s Love Alarm (sound). In 2023, she served as a sound artist/researcher at Korea’s National Asian Cultural Complex (ACC), contributing to various projects. Known professionally as “klof,” she is an active techno DJ and performs experimental and audiovisual live sets.
