Sungmin Park

Park Sung-min is an electronic music musician based in Seoul, South Korea, who performs live coding-based performances. He enjoys using technology and is deeply interested in the overall artistic creation using programming, but he always tries to maintain a pop sensibility and emotion in his works. Since 2015, he has been performing as a regular crew member of the ambient music series Ambient M.O.O.O, and is also a member of the Buddhist/traditional music group 사(社) Project.

Hyungjoong Kim

Based in Seoul and Daejeon, Kim Hyung-joong (29 years old) expresses his concerns and curiosity about the existence of life that he gained while studying film, philosophy, and engineering through sensory works using new media. For the past year, he has been working on audio-visual works that map sounds, lights, and images that he himself produces onto biological data, and his works have been presented in the form of installations and performances at venues such as the ‘Ars Electronica Festival’, ‘Project Daejeon’, ‘Constant Value’, and ‘Regulations’.

Yoosin Kim

Yoosin kim, born in South Korea, received his BFA from Hongik university in Seoul and currently lives and works in Seoul and Sokcho. Recently Kim created sound works inspired by irregular nature sounds and that represent the sublimity of it. He also creates audio visual performances with quartz composer and unity engine. Aside from his visual art practice, Kim is producing the documentary ‘The draft line’ in Sokcho. He utilises the sounds and videos from documentary for his performance.

Changgyun Jung

He is an artist who works based on sound. He composes songs through various approaches and studies on sound, such as field-recorded ambient sounds, hardware circuit bending, programming-based creative music, and self-made instruments, and he continues to work with the goal of restoring the changes in sound in real time. He currently mainly works on space-specific sound installations, where he makes speakers using everyday discarded items such as empty cans, paper magazines, and glass bottles, and installs/exhibits them to reflect the characteristics and regional colors of specific spaces. In addition to exhibitions/performances, he collaborates with various fields through hardware production/interaction programming, and is also actively working as a member of the soundscape project and media collaboration group upcycle roundup.

Sojin Yoon X Jaehwan Kim

Yoon So-jin is a composer who explores the various sounds of instruments. She pursues works that allow one to feel the emotion of sound. She debuted as a member of the electronic music project team ‘ITS’ at the 2015 Munrae Art Factory’s promising art support project ‘MAP’, and is currently actively working as a representative and affiliated composer of the artist label Arts Incubator.

Kim Jae-hwan is a graphic designer who uses typography as a base to express his interest in auditory visualization through his work. He participated as a graphic designer in plays such as ‘There are times when I suddenly feel angry’ by Lee Hwa-won and Beta Project, and participated in the 2016 Seoul Design Week y_smart exhibition, the 2016 Typojanchi Pre-Biennale workshop, and workshop in workshop.

‘Tic’, which will be presented at WeSA this year, is an audiovisual performance piece by these two artists, a collaboration between audiovisual and choreographer Yoo Ji-young.

Jonghyun Kim

Kim Jong-hyun studied contemporary music composition, piano, and computer programming at Kyung Hee University and Freiburg University of Music in Germany. His works have been presented at New York University, University of North Texas in the US, Griffith University in Australia, ZKM in Germany, University of Mainz, and Freiburg University of Music, and his works have been selected for competitions at international computer music festivals such as ICMC 2015, Nime 2016, Linux AudioConference 2015, and PdCon16~(International Pure Data Convention). He is currently researching artificial intelligence composition and graphic programming, and teaches computer music composition, instrumental music composition, and multimedia programming at Kyung Hee University, Kyewon University of the Arts, and Chonbuk National University.

YOUSUKE FUYAMA

Yousuke Fuyama was born in Nagano, Japan in 1983. He is an artist, composer, programmer, visual and graphic designer, and VJ. He has been studying musical research and sound art and completed Master’s Degree in Media Science at Tokyo University of Technology Graduate School of Bionics, Computer and Media Sciences. His main focus on the expressions through data interconversion using various interfaces and programmes. Fuyama won the first prize at LAPTOP BATTLES TOKYO Vol.4(2008) and has been performing live concerts at several occasions and venues including FUTURA 2008 (France), INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL FOR ARTS AND MEDIA YOKOHAMA 2009, DPG, soundfollies, SonarSound Tokyo 2011, 2012, EMAF Tokyo (RedBull Music Accademy) 2013 SONICACTS 2013(Netherlands), Seoul International Computer Music Festival 2013(South-Korea),OnSite2013(Taiwan), Kill The Silence Festival2015 (HongKong). He submitted his installation work to an Exhibition “alienate/demonstrate/edit” 2012 in New Zealand. He released his sound works from Sludge-tapes(Japan), TTLRecordings(UK) in 2011-2013, and his visual works from Hz-records(Japan), PROGRESSIVE FOrM(Japan), Mozart Kind(UK) in 2011-2013, Sludge-tapes(Japan) in 2014, Monnom Black(UK) in 2014-2015. He also works as a researcher of Brain Machine Interface Department in National University of Electro-Communication Japan.

TRANSISTOR HEAD

Transistorhead has been the electronic sound project of Sung Ki Min since 1998. He was responsible for South Korea’s first Techno party, ‘Aurasoma’, in 1999.Since then he has released 2 albums Housology(2000) and Interruption By Interface(2011). After the release of Interruption By Interface Sung Ki Min also began performing with visuals of his own design interacting directly with his live music. His early work was based around standard hard or minimal house dance floor styles of music. However, his recent work is focused more around dance music based on noise and randomized sound.

Mint Park

Mint Park is an electronic musician and multi-media artist currently residing in Oakland, CA. The Seoul-born artist, works closely with analog synths, digital sound bytes, primitive graphics and, acoustic instruments. Outside of solely sound driven projects, she has actively collaborated with choreographers, filmmakers and visual artist. Her artistic interest and approach lies on top of revealing these multitude of portraits drawn by different point of views hence, continuously redefining the fluctuating existential qualities of time and space in contemporary technomedia society. Through art of sound composition, science of acoustics and muti-media technology, she seeks for minimalistic and simple yet innovative structures to conceive and apprehend each moment of the reality in its own aesthetic way and phenomenon.

Donghui Ko

Donghui Ko, who pursues experimental work outside of conventional work, focuses on electronic music and media art. He is currently a digital art major at Seoul Institute of the Arts and plans to present various works in the future, starting with the work ‘Egorithm’ that will be presented at this WeSA Festival. He previously produced a stage video of ‘도요새의 강’ by the Seoul Metropolitan Opera at Sejong Center for the Performing Arts.
